PLEASE HELP!!!

This is the first time that I have ever had to move somewhere far away while on my own. Those of you have moved and know what it is like can I have tips from you. Especially those who have had to sell or rent their houses. We are renting ours so we at least know that we have somewhere to go if we ever decide to come back out this way. I am sure we will eventually. I am addicted to DALLAS, TEXAS!!! I love this area and am really sad to have to move. Our house is going on the market at the end of October. I need to have the house somewhat packed by then. Anyone up to helping??? Just thought I would put it out there! Thanks for all the ideas. I will take whatever ideas I can get.

Amber,
You guys have been on my mind lately to ask that very question to. What do you need to have done and by when? We can get people over as well as come over and help just let us know, I have a few connections with movers and packers through this great christian service organization I know of, give us a call and let us know what you need!

My suggestion - since I've moved twice with no hubby - is to start with your closet. It seems small but for me it packs the most crap. Then just take it a room at a time, packing things you know you won't use again until you are moved, trinkets, etc. The kitchen is next hardest for me so I start packing dishes I know I can live without.

Now since Clay is working for the military and building houses you should have him look into doing a move for you. That is what we did last - I don't know if its the same for contractors, but I'd think they'd give you something??? You could look into it. Have him go to the transportation office and see if there is anything they'd do to help you. They came and packed us and moved all our stuff. It was nice.

After moving 7 times in 1 year I feel like I am kinda a pro :0). Anyways-first: don't feel bad to request help, most of all since you have kids!
Second: Pack your dishes into your towels-less packing material needed and it gets it all into 1 box.
Third: Start early and do a couple boxes a night. I did this and sorted as I went so I wasn't burnt out and packing random things we didn't want anymore.
Fourth: Don't clean things before you pack them (ie-sheets) you'll just have to do it again when you unpack them.
Fifth: Make sure you lable everything so you can put it directly into the room it needs to be in-it makes unpacking so much easier.
Sixth: Don't buy boxes-hit up stores to get them, and use newspaper for everything but things that your don't want black smudges on (ie-white figurines-it doesn't come off well).
Seventh: Make sure you get boxes that are around the same size-or buy a bunch of tupperwares-it'll save you space!
Eighth: Use blankets to pack large pictures, fleece work best because you can tape them and it won't leave that sticky film-it will pull off a little fuz instead when you pull off the tape.
Ninth: Pack your beds, and bedding last so that you can pull it out and get it set up first since you will be so tired from moving.
Tenth: Make sure you have access to cups, plates, and silverware for when you get into your new place. Digging out a cup because you're dying of thirst is no fun!
Congrats on your move-hopefully some of these tips will work for you. I will let you know if I think of any more!

Ok, I just realized I totally know who you are. Amber... Amber...ok, I can't remember what your last name used to be, but I recognize your face. I was just about to ask how you're doing, but I guess I could just read your blog to find out. Did your last name start with a K? I'm probably way off.

I'd love to help! We've had our fair share of moves, although not recently. This week is crazy busy for me, but I'd love to help next week or could take your kiddos for a bit, or whatever you need. Email me and let me know what I can do!!!

I recommend saving on bubble wrap by wrapping all your breakables (photos, decorations) in towels, bedding, etc. Get lots of newspaper (I can start saving some if you need me to...and I can get even more if you need more) and use those to help create a buffer for movable stuff in your boxes. When I packed, I picked a spot in my (then) apartment and started loading boxes there, and then left em for the movers. That way I knew what was done and knew everything that I was looking at still needed to be done. Good luck, moving is never my most exciting thing!

Hey Amber, I can drop your girls off if you want. I know that I can get a lot more done when I don't have to stop every other minute to take care of my kids.
